While Parrot’s first AR.Drone had a VGA camera, something that sounds like it should be from the 80s, their new version has a higher quality camera of 720 p. The Elite Edition runs around $300, which is a great price point for a beginning air drone hobbyists. One of the downsides to the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 is that it doesn’t have a whole lot of flying time.
You’ll want to be certain this drone is fully charged up before you leave home, as it only has a ten minute running time on its 1,000mAh battery. That’s really not a lot of flying time, especially when you factor in the time it took to charge it up, pack it into its case, and walk or drive to the park. The Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 Review Power Edition
While the Elite Edition comes in bright colors, the Power Edition is available in stealth black. If you’re tired of the usual orange drone offering on the UAV market, the Power Edition’s black color may make your choice easier. The Power Edition is all black, from its hulls to its bumpers. The Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 Power Edition comes with sleeker hulls than the Elite edition.
One of the noticeable differences between the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 Elite Edition and the Power Edition is that the Power Edition has a longer flying time. Flying time has now been extended to thirty-six minutes, which is a more reasonable length of time, and definitely justifies leaving the house.
The main difference between the Elite Edition and the Power Edition is that this drone has two 1,500mAh batteries in its battery compartment. While some people were disappointed that a new type of battery wasn’t used, one battery swaps out with the other, doubling flying time.
Another great feature of the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 Power Edition is that it is customizable. Included in the box are three sets of additional propellers. You can switch out your propellers with blue, red, or orange, which will brighten up your black drone, or enable you to see it better at far distances. You can remove your four black propellers and mix and match the color ones to your choice, or keep them all the same color.
The Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 review includes both the Elite Edition and the Power Edition. The Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 Elite Edition was a great starter drone model, but with the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 Power Edition running only at another $70, it’s worth forking over the extra money for a longer running time.
If you wish to base it solely on color, the Power Edition’s black color is cool, and can be spruced up with colorful propellers, should you tire of your drone being all black.
