In today’s digital age, when a wide range of smart gadgets is readily available, improving the security of your home has never been more convenient or accessible. Now is the perfect time to utilize these innovations to effectively strengthen personal protection and household security. Explore the top security gadgets recommended by the home locksmith experts at locksmithspros.org, all controllable via smartphone. With these tools in hand, enjoy the peace of mind of real-time protection, whether at home or on vacation.

Smart Cameras Connected to WiFi

Any reliable smart home system should feature quality smart cameras that can be easily connected to your home’s WiFi. Arlo Pro 4 is a wireless, 2K HDR security camera with integrated spotlights. The model provides users with superior video quality and the convenience of connecting straight to Wi-Fi without needing a SmartHub. It also features a rechargeable battery for extra convenience and color night vision that can prove extremely handy in various scenarios, including home burglaries.
Similar to other options like the Google Nest Cam, you can stay connected to your home from any remote location while benefiting from live audio and video, including zoom-in and movement options, get instant alerts on your smartphone whenever the system detects motion, capture clear details and colors, and use in combination with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, or Google Assistant.

Smart Video Doorbells

Premium smart video doorbells like the Ring model feature HD cameras which allow you to connect them to the cloud. This means that the HD camera will automatically stream to the cloud whenever someone is standing at your door, allowing you to watch and respond using your smartphone. You can also speak directly to your visitors or the delivery person.

These home security gadgets are excellent ways of enhancing your overall protection since possible home invaders will live under the impression that someone is inside the house. Additionally, finding top-rated homeowners insurance that covers theft and damage can give you peace of mind, knowing you’re protected financially. You can also watch the recorded camera footage later, as it will be stored in the cloud while enjoying the perks of infrared night vision and motion detection, depending on the model.

Smart Locks Give Temporary Access

The leading smart lock models like the Wyze Lock or the August Smart Lock Pro provide excellent high-tech features to your front door lock with minimum effort. They have a mesmerizing futuristic lock that can considerably improve your home’s curb appeal and enable you to connect the lock to a smartphone via WiFi and Bluetooth. In turn, you will be granted access to your home by accessing a dedicated app on your phone, whether standing at the front door or not near the house. The remote access function on these smart locks makes them ideal for people who are dealing with dreadful lockout scenarios, but they can also serve the purpose of granting temporary access to unexpected visitors, home repairmen, or home cleaners. Besides the remote door locking and unlocking option, most models also keep detailed records of all the times and dates when the front door has been unlocked.

WiFi Smart Door and Window Sensors

If you are looking for clever and efficient ways of securing and monitoring the doors and windows around the house, a smart, WiFi-based sensor is a good option. These affordable options have a simplified setup, are powered by classic AAA batteries while boasting low energy consumption, and send real-time tamper notifications to your phone.

Models like the Tellur WiFi Smart Door & Window Sensor can be easily integrated into your Smart Home ecosystem. They boost your overall sense of security by letting you keep track of the exact times and dates when the doors or windows have been opened or closed. The best models feature voice activation via Amazon Alexa and Google Home for added convenience, and they do not require a hub to work, supporting up to 150 registered devices. Before making a purchase, Locksmiths Pros experts recommend you check a few compatibility details. For instance, some sensors only work with 2.4GHz wireless networks.

Smart Light Bulbs, Switches, Blinds, and Curtains

Smart lights and smart switches are other top home security options that belong to a solid, smart home alarm system. When used correctly, they can effectively create the illusion that someone is home, even when the home is empty and you are on vacation. These smart gadgets can be easily scheduled to turn the lights on and off at various times. They can also be monitored and operated from remote locations worldwide with the help of a simple app on your smartphone. Consider automated curtains and blinds that can open and close remotely to simplify your life while offering extra security benefits and more peace of mind.

Their main purpose is also to make it seem like someone is at your home, even when this is not the case. They can be programmed to open and close at preset times and managed remotely via apps.

Final Thoughts

Top-notch home security and personal safety have never been more convenient. Making your house safe is easy with these user-friendly solutions that you can operate directly from your smartphone. Remember that experienced locksmiths or security specialists are the best people to contact if you want your smart home security devices to function as best they can. Their knowledge guarantees that your house is safe and secure, giving you peace of mind.

]]>
My life is incomplete without Alexa. From waking me up in the morning at six sharp to turning on the television for quick evening news, this voice assistant from Amazon keeps my daily routine on track. But sometimes, it frustrates me to the core by not responding to my commands. If you’ve got Alexa at home, you can relate.

But why is Alexa not responding? Here’s the answer.

Alexa may not be responding due to a shaky Wi-Fi connection, a silenced microphone, software hiccups, or server glitches. To sort this, dive into your network settings, flip ON that microphone switch, use the right “wake” word, or go for a complete factory reset.

Continue reading as I discuss all common reasons behind the “Alexa not responding” problem and share some quick troubleshooting tips that have always worked for me.

Alexa Not Responding – Reasons & Solutions Summary

If your Amazon Alexa device isn’t responding, there could be various reasons for this behavior. Here are some common issues and troubleshooting steps:

Common Reasons and Fixes:

  1. Wi-Fi Connection Issues
    • Fix: Ensure that Alexa is connected to Wi-Fi. Reconnect the device to your Wi-Fi network via the Alexa app if needed.
  2. Device is Muted
  3. Volume Too Low
    • Fix: Check the volume settings directly on the device or through the Alexa app and adjust as needed.
  4. Microphone Issues
    • Fix: Ensure nothing obstructs the device’s microphone and that it’s clean from dust or debris.
  5. Interference from Other Devices
    • Fix: Make sure there are no other electronic devices causing interference nearby. If possible, move such devices away from Alexa.
  6. Software Glitches
    • Fix: Try restarting your Alexa device to clear any temporary software glitches.
  7. Alexa Didn’t Hear the Wake Word Properly
    • Fix: Make sure you’re clearly saying the wake word (“Alexa”, “Echo”, or whatever custom wake word you’ve set).
  8. Incorrect Device Selected in App
    • Fix: Ensure that you’re connected to the correct device in the Alexa app.
  9. Outdated Software
    • Fix: Make sure the device’s software is up to date. Software updates are usually automatic but check to be sure.
  10. Electrical Issues
    • Fix: Make sure the device is properly plugged into a working outlet.
  11. Network Congestion
    • Fix: If too many devices are connected to your Wi-Fi, it might slow down the connection. Consider removing some devices or upgrading your internet plan.
  12. Skill or Feature-Specific Issue
    • Fix: If a specific skill or feature isn’t working, try disabling and re-enabling the skill via the Alexa app.
  13. Account Linking Issues
    • Fix: Ensure your Amazon account is properly linked to the Alexa app.
  14. Router Issues
    • Fix: Sometimes, rebooting your Wi-Fi router can solve connectivity issues.
  15. Factory Reset
    • Fix: As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset on the device, but be aware this will erase all your settings.

Remember that specific models might have unique issues, so always consult your device’s manual or Amazon’s official support for model-specific troubleshooting steps.

Why Is Alexa Not Responding? Common Causes

Why has my Alexa suddenly stopped working? If you’re thinking about this, find below the five possible reasons:

Microphone is OFF

If your Alexa’s microphone is OFF, it won’t be able to hear or respond to your voice commands. Due to this, the “Alexa not responding” problem becomes inevitable.

Microphone is OFF
Source: HelloTech

Your voice-controlled speaker is designed to react to certain wake words – Amazon, Echo, Computer, Ziggy, and Alexa. If you use any incorrect wake word other than the one you’ve set, Alexa won’t answer back.

This is a common scenario if someone has changed the wake word for your Alexa without your knowledge.

Server Issue

Alexa operates through Amazon’s cloud-based servers. When you speak something to your device, the audio is sent to these servers for processing using sophisticated algorithms. The servers then retrieve relevant information/perform actions, and send the response back to your device.

If the servers are down, this process won’t be fully executed, resulting in the “Alexa not responding” problem. Tip: I recommend using Downdetector to check if the servers are down.

Poor Wi-Fi Network

A poor/unstable Wi-Fi network is equally blamed for the “Alexa not responding” issue.

Glitch in The Alexa-Enabled Device

Lastly, Alexa is just another software-based product. Hence, even a minor glitch or bug can interfere with its functioning.

Is Alexa Not Responding? Here’s How to Fix It

Now that you’ve understood what’s causing the “Alexa not responding” problem try the following workarounds to resolve it.

Use the Correct Word to Summon Alexa

Grabbing your beloved Alexa’s attention for any task requires using the correct wake word. If you’re using an incorrect word, it won’t react. In addition, there must be no unnecessary noises around you to let Alexa recognize your voice clearly.

Turn ON the Microphone

As I said above, muting your Echo device’s microphone makes Alexa unable to respond to your voice commands until you turn it ON again. Each device has a physical button to turn the mic ON/OFF.

If this button shows red, it indicates that the mic is OFF. Press the button again to turn it green or ON.

Alternatively, you can also check the Alexa app for the microphone status by following these steps:

  • Launch the Alexa app on your Android or iOS device.
Launch Alexa
  • Tap the More icon at the bottom right corner of the screen.
Tap the More Icon
  • Select Settings
Go to Settings
  • Tap Device Settings
Select Device Settings
  • Select the device you’re facing issues with.
  • Check the Microphone setting to ensure that it’s enabled.

If it’s disabled, toggle the switch to turn it ON.

Say something to Alexa now, and it should happily greet you.

Perform a Power Cycle on Your Alexa-Enabled Device

For software glitches or bugs, restarting or power cycling your Alexa-enabled device is the best solution that comes to my mind. It’s easy, too.

Follow these steps:

  • Turn OFF the Alexa-enabled device.
  • Remove the power adapter from the power outlet.
  • Wait for at least 30-60 seconds.
  • Re-insert the adapter back into the power outlet.
  • Turn ON your device.

Note: If your device runs on batteries, take out the batteries and wait for at least 30-60 seconds. Insert the batteries, and check if Alexa is working fine now.

Fix Your Wi-Fi Network

Fix Your Wi-Fi Network
Source: CNET

Alexa needs a reliable and active internet connection to process your voice commands and function accordingly. Thus, check your Wi-Fi connection on another device, like your smartphone or computer, to see if that’s working fine. If not, you must switch to another network.

Another thing to note here is that both your smartphone and Echo must be on the same Wi-Fi network.

Pro Tip: Place your Amazon Echo device near the router for the best connection quality and speed.

Change the Wake Word

You must use the correct wake word set from the settings to operate Alexa. Now, it’s possible that someone changed it, so the device is not responding to your commands.

This has happened to me before, and reverting to the old word is the best solution here. The steps are:

For Alexa App:

  • Launch the Alexa app on your Android or iOS device.
Launch Alexa
  • Tap Devices from the bottom bar of the app.
Tap Devices from the bottom bar of the app
  • Select All Devices on the next screen.
  • Choose your Alexa device from the on-screen list.
  • Scroll down the General section and tap Wake Word.
  • Select a wake word from the available list.
  • Close the Alexa app.

For Alexa Website:

  • Visit alexa.amazon.com and sign into your account.
  • Click Settings from the left pane.
  • Choose your Alexa device under the Devices section.
  • Scroll down your device’s page until you see the General section. Here, select the Wake Word option.
  • Set a new wake word from the on-screen dropdown menu.
  • Click Save

Now, use this recently set wake word to communicate with your Alexa. It should respond.

Factory Reset Alexa to Default Settings

I hope you don’t require factory resetting your Alexa (since you’ll need to reconfigure it). Still, doing this is worth it if nothing has worked for you so far.

Follow these steps to factory reset Alexa to its default settings:

  • Launch the Alexa app on your Android or iOS device.
  • Tap Devices from the bottom bar of the app.
  • Select All Devices on the next screen. Choose your device.
  • The Settings menu will open.
  • Scroll down and tap Factory Settings
  • A confirmation pop-up will appear. Tap Factory Reset again to confirm your action.

Wait for your Alexa device to reset to default. Once done, reconfigure it. It should now respond to your voice.

Alexa Not Responding: FAQs

Why Is Alexa Called Echo?

Amazon Alexa is part of a product line called “Echo,” wherein each device “echoes” back with a response or action when you speak. Thus, Alexa is often called Echo.

Why Is Alexa Not Responding but Lighting Up?

If Alexa is lighting up but not responding, multiple causes can exist. For instance, it’s not correctly connected to the Wi-Fi, there’s a software glitch/bug, etc.

What Can I Do if Alexa Won’t Respond to Stop Command?

When Alexa doesn’t respond to my Stop command, I usually use a different phrase (like “Alexa, pause”) and ensure no background noises. Once, I found my Alexa’s wake word sensitivity too high. Adjusting this also made it catch my Stop command quickly.

Can You Manually Reset Alexa?

You can manually reset your Alexa by pressing and holding its Reset button. Refer to your user manual to locate this Reset button on your speaker.

Is It OK to Unplug Alexa?

Yes, it’s perfectly fine to unplug Alexa. Just remember that it’ll take some time to boot up and reconnect to the internet when you plug it back in.

Is It Bad to Leave Your Alexa on All Night?

A: No, leaving your Alexa ON all night isn’t bad. I often forget to turn OFF my device, and it has still been working fine. But yes, energy consumption will be high in this case.

Conclusion

Wrapping things up, don’t sweat if your Alexa doesn’t respond. Also, don’t jump to conclusions about your smart speaker being damaged.

It could just be a finicky Wi-Fi connection or your microphone playing hide and seek in the “OFF” position. And hey, using the wrong wake word can also throw Alexa for a loop. No matter the cause, give the fixes above a whirl, and you’ll have things humming along as usual.

Now, the big question: Is your Amazon Alexa responding to your commands?

Control sensors are a great way to automate and simplify your home. With the help of control sensors, you can save energy, improve security, and make life at home more convenient. Adding control sensors to your home is a great way to increase safety and energy efficiency and give you more control over your home. Control sensors can detect movement, temperature, light, and more, and they are becoming increasingly popular in homes due to their versatility and convenience. This blog post will discuss why you need control sensors for your home and the benefits they can offer.

Control Sensors and your Home

Home automation is becoming increasingly popular, and with good reason. Not only does it make your life easier, but it also offers added security and convenience. One of the most important pieces of home automation technology is control sensors. Control sensors are essential for ensuring your home is secure, energy-efficient, and comfortable.

Consider sensors as your home’s eyes, ears, and even fingers. These devices can detect a door or window opening, a room’s temperature, moisture on the floor, or even the movement of someone (or anything), and they can then warn you. Or, you might program your sensors to instruct other smart devices how to react—this is where these devices start to get very clever.

For instance, a sensor may instruct your thermostat to run if it determines that a room is too hot. Alternatively, you might set up a sensor to notify you and even call the police if a door opens when no one should be at home. A sensor may instruct the lights to come on when someone descends the stairs after nightfall. The concept is that sensors can control your smart home for you rather than you pressing buttons on your phone or yelling at a speaker. That is the distinction between a home with smart features and a truly smart home.

How Control Sensors Can Benefit Your Home

Control sensors are devices that monitor and regulate your home’s various aspects, including temperature, lighting, and other environmental settings. They can provide various benefits for homeowners, making their lives easier and more comfortable. Home control sensors have become increasingly popular and useful with today’s ever-growing technology. Home control sensors like the Mamac sensors provide homeowners with various benefits that allow them to create a more comfortable, safe, and convenient living space. From controlling your lighting and climate to providing peace of mind, here are just a few of the advantages you can get from installing home control sensors in your home

Energy Efficiency

Control sensors are a great way to improve your home’s energy efficiency. By monitoring temperature, lighting, and other environmental conditions, they can detect when something is using more energy than necessary and adjust settings accordingly to reduce energy usage. This saves you money on energy bills, helps you conserve resources, and reduces your carbon footprint.

Safety:

Control sensors are also a great way to increase safety in your home. They can detect movement, smoke, and other hazards, alerting you if something is amiss. They can also be programmed to trigger emergency response systems if necessary. One of the primary benefits of home control sensors is the ability to keep your home safe. You can set up motion sensors that detect intruders or use door and window sensors to alert you if someone enters the house while you’re away. You can even set up sensors that will turn on lights automatically in an emergency or if you hear suspicious noises outside.

Convenience

Control sensors can make managing your daily routine easier by controlling the various settings in your home. You can set them up to switch on lights when you enter a room or adjust the temperature according to your preferences. This can save you time and effort every day. With home control sensors, you can create a hands-free lifestyle. A button can adjust your home’s temperature, lights, and security settings. Home control sensors can also be connected to your phone or tablet for maximum convenience.

Comfort

Control sensors can also improve your comfort by providing an ideal environment for your activity. Setting them to monitor temperature and lighting ensures perfect conditions for sleeping, working, or relaxing.

An option like the Johnson control sensors can help create a more comfortable atmosphere in your home. You can set up sensors to automatically adjust your thermostat and lights based on the time of day or the weather outside. This helps ensure that you have a comfortable environment at all times. You can also customize the settings on your home control system to your preferences so that you always feel comfortable in your home.

How to Choose the Right Control Sensor for Your Home

Choosing the right control sensor for your home is essential for ensuring the safety and security of your family and property. Control sensors come in various shapes and sizes and different types of technology, so it’s essential to take the time to research the different options before making a purchase.

When selecting a control sensor, the first thing to consider is the type of environment in which it will be used. Different environments require different sensors, and you may want to buy a different type depending on whether you plan to use the sensor inside or outside. You should also consider the size of the sensor, as larger sensors may be more sensitive and provide greater coverage than smaller ones.

The next thing to think about when choosing a control sensor is the type of detection you need. Some sensors, like the RLE sensors, are designed to detect motion, while others can detect changes in temperature or humidity. Knowing what type of detection you need will help you narrow your search and select a sensor that meets your needs.

Conclusion

Overall, control sensors are an invaluable tool for any homeowner looking to make their life more comfortable and efficient. By taking advantage of their many benefits, you’ll create a more enjoyable living space for yourself and your family.

By taking the time to research and compare the different control sensors available, you can ensure that you choose the right one for your home. Doing so will provide you with peace of mind and help keep your home safe and secure.

The post Best Baby Monitor Without Wi-Fi And Buying Guide appeared first on The WiredShopper.

]]>
As a parent, you would want to spend your day beside your little one, developing that parent-infant bonding. But what if you have to leave them alone for some emergency, urgent travel, or a business meeting that isn’t ending soon?

Key Takeaways

    • Baby monitors with a two-way noise system let you communicate with your little one.
    • If you’ve got the cash to burn, I suggest a monitor with real-time breathing monitoring that measures your baby’s respirations per minute.
    • If you want to keep a constant tab on your little one without moving the camera around, at least two cameras are recommended.

For these situations, a baby monitor is a worthy investment.

A small device, it’s designed to keep all your worries about your baby at bay while you’re away. From keeping a constant tab on your little one to playing their favorite lullabies to calm them to sleep, you can achieve both (and much more) with a baby monitor.

But with so many tech-savvy baby monitors with distinct functionalities, getting your hands on the best baby monitor isn’t a walk in the park anymore.

Don’t fret; here are my top 4 recommendations for the best baby monitor, loaded with all the essential features you’d want.

Take advantage of the buying guide towards the end to make an informed decision.

Can A Baby Monitor Work Without Wi-Fi?

Yes, a baby monitor can work without Wi-Fi. Instead, such a monitor uses a local radio frequency to transmit video/sound to your parent unit.

These RF-supported baby monitors have a few advantages over their Wi-Fi siblings, for example, more reliability, low costs, no chances of hacking, etc.

4 Best Baby Monitors Without Wi-Fi – Summary

What Features To Consider When Buying A Baby Monitor Without Wi-Fi?

Look for the following features when buying a baby monitor without Wi-Fi.

  • Night Vision

Many monitors manufactured today feature “night vision” that lets you see your little one even when it’s sleeping in a dark room.

If not night vision, you’ll probably find a mini “night LED light” on the nursery unit that you can activate via the parent unit.

  • Temperature Sensor

Do you constantly worry about the temperature of your baby’s room? If yes, ensure that the baby monitor you choose has a temperature sensor. It’ll monitor the room’s temperature and display it on your parent unit.

Note: The best room temperature for babies is between 68°F to 72°F (or 20°C to 22°C.)

  • Connectivity

Is the screen size of your baby monitor’s parent unit too small? Why not connect it to a VCR/DVD recorder or television and get more viewing space? For this, check if the baby monitor has the supported ports.

  • Expandability

If you have more than one kid or want to check in on multiple rooms/places, the monitor’s ability to connect more cameras is a big thumbs up. This way, you won’t need to invest in more monitors.

Ideally, 2-4 cameras are sufficient for most parents.

  • Remote Adjustments

If not more, you would at least be able to adjust the camera angles remotely from your parent unit. This is a necessary feature for you if your kiddo doesn’t sleep in one position.

  • Two-Way Audio

Two-way audio lets you communicate with your baby from your own room, in case your baby is restless. This way, you need not risk waking it up by going into the room.

  • Lullaby Mode

When activated from your parent unit, the lullaby mode will play lullabies to calm down your crying or restless baby. Certain monitors will have built-in tunes to play and the option to transfer your favorite tunes from outside.

4 Best Baby Monitors Without Wi-Fi – Reviewed in Detail

After extensively using over some time, below are my favorite baby monitors you can invest in.

Disclaimer: Since few good monitors are available without Wi-Fi functionality, I’ve also included some Wi-Fi-based ones for your reference.

Talking about the setup, it’s pretty straightforward. Since there’s no Wi-Fi connectivity, a single power button push is all that’s required.

The key highlight of the monitor is the power-saving mode. When turned on, it extends the battery life to 8 hours by switching OFF the screen but keeping the audio ON. Don’t worry; the screen will switch ON automatically as it senses your baby crying.

There’s also an auto night vision mode. When you switch to it, you can see your little one in the dark. Hence, no need to keep the lights on.

Do you often worry about your baby’s room temperature when you’re not around? This is a common worry among parents; thus, this Moonybaby monitor is equipped with a “room temperature monitoring” feature.

The in-built sensors keep a constant tab on the room temperature and notify you through the monitor if anything is wrong.

Specifications

  • Wi-Fi: No
  • Screen Size: 5 inches
  • Special Features: No glare night vision, 2-way talk, wide angle true color 720p display
  • Number Of Cameras: 1

Are you looking for a cheap baby monitor under $100? If so, this VTech VM818HD baby monitor is a steal deal. And here’s why.

Despite its low price tag, you get a wide 5 inches screen with OSD controls for easy navigation. As for the picture quality – it’s at par with other high-end models. Thus, be it day or night, watch your baby’s little moves in 720p high definition.

On the security front, the monitor is fully secured and transmitted via an internal 2.4GHz channel with FHSS technology. Hence, no one can tap into the monitor or hack it.

For restless babies who start crying out of nowhere during peak night, VTech has also installed a soft night light and lullaby feature. Controlled from the parent unit’s settings, you can turn on soft night light or play 4 calming ambient sounds and 5 peaceful melodies from the camera to soothe the baby.

If these don’t work, you can also turn on the two-way mic and speak to your baby without going to the other room.

Since a too high or too cold room temperature can also cause discomfort to babies, the monitor automatically senses any abrupt change in the room temperature. If so, you’ll be alarmed via the parent unit to act suitably.

Pros

  • Nine soothing system sounds for restless babies
  • Plug & play functionality
  • 2-way communication from a 1000-ft range
  • Decent battery life of the monitor

If you’re interested in a Wi-Fi-supported baby monitor, here’s what I’ve got. This smart baby monitor from VTech is truly “smart” to look after your baby while you’re away.

The product comprises one 360° camera and a 720p True-Color wide-angle screen. Hence, you get sharp and crisp images of your little one, which has 7x more pixels than other monitor screens.

Thanks to the Wi-Fi connectivity, you can pair your monitor to the official MyVTech Baby app (available on Android & iOS) and track your baby on the go! At home, you don’t need any Wi-Fi or an app.
