You most likely use your AirPods to listen to music for the ultimate wireless experience, right? But do you sometimes want to move on to your favorite song and not listen to the tracks before it? Well, this guide will help you do exactly that. Learn how to skip songs with AirPods easily without the need to do it through your device.

We’ll explore all the different methods of how to use the audio controls on your Apple earbuds, including how to pause and skip songs, regardless of what model AirPods you own.

Key Takeaways

  • Some people are unaware they can skip songs with their AirPods and not via the device (iPhone, Mac, etc.).
  • It’s possible to use the audio controls of the AirPods to pause, playback, or skip songs, irrespective of the model you own.
  • Use the Settings on a connected iOS device to set the double-tap functionality and skip songs on the first-generation AirPods. You can use the force sensor on AirPods Pro to skip songs. Use the digital crown on AirPods Max to skip the songs.

Can You Skip and Stop Songs Only Using Your AirPods?

Yes, you can skip/stop songs with your AirPods in different ways, depending on your specific AirPods model—just double-tap on the side of either AirPod. Although the double tap functionality is set to skip songs by default, you can easily customize it to complete other tasks for you. Pause, return to the previous song, or activate Siri via your iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, or Mac settings.

This Is How To Skip Songs With Airpods (Summary)

Skip Songs With AirPods 1st and 2nd Generation:

  1. Double-Tap: By default, double-tapping one of the AirPods while they’re in your ears will skip the song. You can customize this action through your iPhone settings.
    • To customize, go to Settings > Bluetooth on your iPhone.
    • Tap the i icon next to your AirPods.
    • Under “Double-Tap on AirPod,” you can select what function you’d like to assign to the double-tap gesture (such as play/pause, skip forward, or skip back).

  1. Press and Hold: On AirPods Pro, you can configure a “Press and Hold” function to skip tracks.
    • To customize, go to Settings > Bluetooth on your iPhone.
    • Tap the i icon next to your AirPods Pro.
    • Under “Press and Hold AirPods,” you can customize the function for each earbud.
  2. Double Press: By default, pressing the force sensor on the stem of the AirPod twice quickly will skip the song.

Skip Songs With AirPods Max:

  1. Press the Digital Crown: On AirPods Max, you can double-press the Digital Crown to skip the song.

Customization:

You can customize the controls for AirPods through an iPhone or iPad, allowing you to specify what action you’d like to associate with different gestures.

Here’s how you can customize these settings:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Go to Bluetooth.
  3. Next to your AirPods in the list, tap the i icon.
  4. Here you can customize the controls for each of your AirPods.

Please note that the available features and customization options may vary depending on the firmware version of your AirPods and your iOS version. It would be best to consult Apple’s official support documentation for the most current information.

How to Skip Songs With AirPods Full Step-by-Step Guide

Skipping songs is possible with AirPods, and it’s pretty easy too. Follow the step-by-step guide I have shared below.

  • Go to the Settings of your connected iPhone or iPad and open the Bluetooth tab.
  • Press the “I” icon right in front of the AirPods, and the new menu will appear.
  • Right below the “double-tap on AirPod,” you will be able to choose between left or right AirPods and change the double-tap settings.

  • Now, choose “next track.” This will make the “next track” a default function whenever you touch and double-tap the stem, so you can easily play the next song.

Voila! You’ve reached the next song in the queue. Also, there is an option to ask Siri to make this a default setting, so try that easy trick, too.

To skip songs with AirPods Pro, use the force sensor. This sensor is located on the indented part of your AirPods’ stems.

These sensors are reactive to pressure. There is no button. However, you can skip songs with two touches. In the section below, I have shared the detailed steps for you.

  • If you want to skip the songs forward, press the sensor twice. You must press the stem gently between two fingers and squeeze the sensor area twice to skip the song.
  • If you want to fast-forward through the song you are currently playing, you need to hold the sensor on the second press.

This method uses the force sensor on the stem to skip the song. Also, ensure the sensor area is properly cleaned to register your touch.

If you didn’t shy away from spending hundreds of dollars and purchased the AirPods Max, this section is for you. This model has a change of design, which is why you cannot use the double-tap method to skip the songs. So, if you want to change or skip the song, follow the steps below.

  • If you want to skip to the next song, locate the digital crown on the right earcup’s top and press it two times.
  • If you want to return to the previous song, press the digital crown three times.

However, if you can’t skip songs using the methods above, you should update the firmware or check the charging performance of your AirPods.

Low battery can cause various performance issues, so keep the charging case handy, and your AirPods always juiced up!

How to Skip Songs With AirPods: FAQs

Q. How to fix the AirPods Pro skip song not working?

Q. How to turn off AirPods?

A. Since there is no power button on AirPods, people have difficulty understanding how to turn them off. To turn off your AirPods, take them out of your ears, put them in the charging case, and close the lid. It’s that simple.

Q. How do I customize my AirPods to skip a song?

A. To change the settings, wear the AirPods and go to the settings. From the settings, open the Bluetooth tab, click on AirPods, and click on right or left. After that, you can choose the action. You can also connect the AirPods to your iPhone and ask Siri to change or skip the song.

Q. How do I turn on the force sensor AirPods?

A. You have to open the accessibility tab from the settings of your iPad or iPhone. From the accessibility tab, choose AirPods and select how many taps will do which action. In addition, you can customize how quickly you’ve to press the sensor or stem before the action is taken. This method works on iPod Touch, iPad, and iPhone.

Q. Why are my AirPods not skipping songs when I double-tap them?

A. There are chances that you haven’t turned on the double-tap feature. This feature is activated after you connect it to the iOS device that you are using, such as iPad or iPhone. Once they are connected, you have to open the Bluetooth settings to turn it on. As a result, the double-tap feature will be enabled. In addition, keep in mind that the double-tap method only works on the AirPods first-generation model.

]]>
A headphone splitter is one of the most versatile audio accessories I’ve come across. It’s pocket-sized, inexpensive, and lets me connect two (or more) headphones to a single sound source for sharing music, movies, or games with my family and friends. Thus, you should also have one. But since all splitters aren’t made equal, it’s a good idea to pay attention to a few things, in order to get the best headphone splitter out there.

Continue reading this article as I discuss every important thing related to this small device, including detailed reviews of the top 5 models as recommended by experts and rated by customers.

So, let’s start.

Key Takeaways

  • Headphone splitters split a single audio signal into multiple signals.
  • Doing so makes two or more people listen to the same audio, with their own set of headphones.
  • There are two main categories of splitters – dual and multi. While the former lets you connect a maximum of two headphones, the latter accepts multiple.

How to Choose a Headphone Splitter?

Choosing a headphone splitter is fairly simple. Below are some important things you must take care of.

Purpose

The first thing to consider is how many sets of headphones you plan to use with your splitter. While dual splitters are the most common, I suggest a multi-splitter as it’ll let you connect more than two pairs of headphones. And it doesn’t cost much!

Connector Material

For the connector material, both gold and nickel-plated ones work for me. But, I’m more inclined towards splitters with gold connectors due to their better electrical conductivity and protection against corrosion.

This way, you don’t have to fret about sound choppiness or wear & tear.

Audio Mixing

This is a kind of additional feature, but worth having! It helps you control the bass, treble, and volume of your headphones from the connector itself. For example, the 5-jack Belkin Rockstar multi-splitter is one of my favorites when it comes to audio mixing.

Cable Length

There’s nothing called a perfect cable length. While a longer cable means more freedom of movement, it’ll often get tangled and take more space inside your bag or pocket.

Conversely, a shorter cable will limit your movement, but it won’t get tangled or eat up much space. Hence, which cable length is ideal for you is completely your preference.

Note: For the cable quality, look for ones with a double shield, as it provides better isolation from static noises around you.

Warranty

Most headphone splitters aren’t expensive, with a few costing less than a slice of pizza at Times Square! Still, it’s better to buy a product with at least some warranty, say, a year, to avoid unnecessary spending in the future.

Additional Features

Some additional features that are worth the money are a built-in amplifier, in-line microphone, LED indicator lights, app integrations, etc.

Weigh the importance of these extra features and how they suit you before making the purchase decision.

How Do Headphones Splitters Work?

A headphone splitter has a very straightforward working principle. It takes an audio signal from a single source, say, you’re connecting the headphones to a TV, and “splits” it into two or more signals.

How can it do so? It contains a circuit that replicates the audio signal from the source and sends identical copies to each connected pair of headphones.

This makes two or more people listen to the same audio, from their own set of headphones.

Headphone splitters come in handy in a variety of situations, such as:

  • Sharing music with your friend(s)
  • Watching a movie with a group
  • Playing video games with a friend
  • Recording audio from two different sources simultaneously, say voiceovers, an interview, etc.

5 Best Headphone Splitters – Summary

5 Best Headphone Splitters – Reviewed

Now, let’s check out the specific features, pros, and cons of the 5 best headphone splitters. This way, you’ll be able to pick the most suitable product that meets your budget and personal needs.

1. Best Overall Headphone Splitter

SOLMIMI Headphone Splitter

SOLMIMI Headphone Splitter
Amazon price

Specifications

  • Connector Type: Auxiliary
  • Connector Material: Gold-plated
  • Cable Length: 1 ft.
  • Compatibility: Universal
  • Weight: 0.88 ounces

The first product on the list is the SOLMIMI Headphone Splitter. It’s one of the most reliable splitters with a best-in-class build and sound quality.

Compatible with all 3.5mm auxiliary ports, the splitter easily plugs into all your regular devices, be it a PC, smartphone, laptop, Xbox, or even Sony’s PlayStations. Hence, no more worries about sharing your favorite audio or movies with your family and friends.

I’ve so far tried & tested 28+ headphone splitters, but the build quality of this particular product remains unmatched. While the internal wires are made from pure oxygen-free copper, the connectors are finely polished and 24K gold-plated for anti-corrosion. This results in a stable setup between the connected devices, and a premium sound experience.

I have also been using it for quite some time, and its durability speaks volumes.

Not to forget the matte black metallic shell on the outside that gives you a firm grip on the splitter and goes great with your expensive gadgets. The only thing missing is audio mixing!

Regarding the cable of the splitter, I found its length quite decent. It measures 1 ft. and, thus, is neither too short nor too long. The cable doesn’t tangle either, due to its nylon braided design. And don’t worry about its strength. SOLMIMI has conducted 15000+ bend tests on this cable to ensure its long lifespan.

Note: This SOLMIMI Headphone Splitter has a 3.3 ft. cable length option, too.

Lastly, SOLMIMI’s 1-year hassle-free customer service and limited warranty back the product.

Pros

  • Build to last
  • Smooth audio transmission
  • Compatible with most devices

Cons

  • No audio mixing
  • Doesn’t work with condenser microphones

2. Best Dual Headphone Splitter

INVERSE Net Headphone Splitter

INVERSE Net Headphone Splitter

Specifications

  • Connector Type: Auxiliary, USB Type-C
  • Connector Material: Nickel-plated
  • Cable Length: NA
  • Compatibility: Laptop, tablets, headphones, cellular phones
  • Weight: 0.774 ounces

What if your headphone splitter could also function as a fast 60W charger? Yes, that’s possible with the INVERSE Net Headphone Splitter

Besides the twin 3.5mm auxiliary ports for the headphones, this splitter also brings you a built-in USB Type-C charging port. The best part is its support for PD fast charging up to 60W, with a maximum output power of 20V/3A. Hence, you can listen to music, binge Netflix movies, or even navigate with car audio while charging your gadgets (with Type-C compatibility.)

As for the sound quality, I would say it’s just decent. Although the high-resolution DAC chip with a 24-bit/96kHz audio output does its job perfectly, a slight loss of signal quality is evident due to the nickel-plated connectors. Had they been gold-plated, things could have been better for sure!

Again, the INVERSE Net Headphone Splitter lacks audio mixing. But it compensates well with online controls for answering calls, volume adjustment, and Play/Pause – all proving very convenient.

The cable length, in my opinion, is very short. Hence, you’ll find the headphone splitter hanging in the air at most times. But this also makes it extremely lightweight, travel-friendly, and easy to store in your backpack, purse, or pocket.

Pros

  • Fast PD charging up to 60W
  • Made from durable materials
  • Online multifunctional controls

Cons

  • No gold-plated connectors
  • Charging speed often drops

Check the INVERSE Net Headphone Splitter’s latest price on Amazon.

3. Best Multi Headphone Splitter

Belkin Rockstar 5-Jack Multi Headphone Audio Splitter

Belkin Rockstar 5-Jack Multi Headphone Audio Splitter
Amazon price

Specifications

  • Connector Type: Auxiliary
  • Connector Material: Nickel-plated
  • Cable Length: NA
  • Compatibility: Universal
  • Weight: 2.1 ounces

If you’re searching for the best multi-headphone splitter, I’ve got the Belkin Rockstar 5-Jack Multi Headphone Audio Splitter for you.

Thanks to its multi-jack design, the splitter accepts a maximum of five headphones (or auxiliary cables) at a time. This lets your group enjoy a lively music or movie session together. However, there was a slight drop in the sound quality and volume when I connected more than two devices simultaneously, contradicting the company’s claim.

With this Belkin Rockstar splitter’s audio mixing feature, you can create a new mix on the go using audio from multiple devices. But you must be a pro to do so; otherwise, the results won’t be as good as expected. Speaking from my experience.

The next thing I really liked about this particular product is its minimalistic design. Despite being a multi-splitter, it’s lightweight and small. While one main reason is the small cable, the central unit is also cleverly designed to occupy less space inside your pocket or backpack.

Lastly, the connectors aren’t gold-plated, and thus, the chances of corrosion and signal loss are inevitable.

Pros

  • Built-in audio mixing
  • Lightweight and compact design
  • Hard-wired auxiliary cable for connecting to devices

Cons

  • Performance drops with multiple devices
  • Small cable length

4. Best Budget Headphone Splitter

UGREEN Headphone Splitter

UGREEN Headphone Splitter
Amazon price

Specifications

  • Connector Type: Auxiliary
  • Connector Material: Gold-plated
  • Cable Length: 1.5 ft.
  • Compatibility: Laptops, PCs, tablets, smartphones, speakers
  • Weight: NA

For shoppers on a budget, the UGREEN Headphone Splitter is the right choice. Here’s why.

Your perfect companion for audio sharing, this 2-in-1 splitter is compatible with most devices with an integrated 3.5mm port. Be it MP3 players, smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles, or computers. This makes it super easy to enjoy your favorite music, movies, and games with others.

When it comes to the sound quality, it’s pretty good. Despite costing under $12, there’s surprisingly no signal loss or static noise to disrupt your listening. So, full marks to the splitter’s construction that comprises polished 24K gold-plated connectors and oxygen-free copper wiring, protected inside a tough aluminum casing.

Another key highlight of the UGREEN headphone splitter is its unique right-angle connector design. This lets you connect to tight spaces and hard-to-reach areas, for which a normal straight connector won’t suit.

Lastly, the 1.5 ft. flat noodle cable is tangle-free, less space-consuming, and strength tested with 20000+ bend tests. I found the cable length decent for all your jobs without creating the mess of tangles.

Pros

  • Long cable for better maneuverability
  • Easy to connect to hard-to-reach areas
  • Unrivaled stereo sound

Cons

  • Gripping the connector is tough
  • No 4-pole plug

Check the UGREEN Headphone Splitter’s latest price on Amazon.

5. Best Headphone Splitter for Travel

Syncwire Headphone Splitter

Syncwire Headphone Splitter
Amazon price

Specifications

  • Connector Type: Auxiliary
  • Connector Material: Gold-plated
  • Cable Length: 0.77 ft.
  • Compatibility: Universal
  • Weight: 0.7 ounces

Last but not least, here’s my all-time favorite Syncwire Headphone Splitter for travel.

The best thing I like about this 3.5mm all-device compatible splitter is its high-quality construction. If I talk about the connectors, they are 24K gold-plated and further treated to resist corrosion in the long run. This results in high-speed and accurate data transmission, eliminating signal loss and noise for the Hi-Fi listening experience.

Regarding the cable, it’s neither too long nor too short at 0.77 ft. I used this splitter at home, in the office, and of course, while traveling. The cable didn’t take up much space and stayed tangle-free. Some credit also goes to its premium nylon-fabric braided design, too.

Syncwire also claims the cable to withstand 15000+ bend tests, and I can ascertain this from experience.

Overall, costing a mere $9, the Syncwire Headphone Splitter is a steal deal, in my opinion with all bases covered.

Pros

  • Ensemble-like sound quality
  • Reliable and durable construction
  • The cable is less likely to kink or knot up

Cons

  • Makes a weird sound with speakers
  • Non-humanized connector grip

]]>
You were wondering about how to connect AirPods to PS5? Maybe you’ve just purchased a new pair of Apple earbuds and now can’t wait to use them while playing your favorite game with a friend. After all, your console gaming is incomplete without a great audio experience.

But without any built-in wireless audio support in the PlayStation 5, you might find it tricky to pair your AirPods with it.

So, here’s the solution to your problem.

Connect Airpods to PS5 (Summary)

Option 1: Use a Bluetooth Adapter

  1. Purchase a Bluetooth Adapter: These are small devices you can plug into the PS5’s USB or audio output port.
  2. Pair AirPods: Turn on your AirPods and put them in pairing mode. Follow the instructions that come with your Bluetooth adapter to pair the AirPods to the adapter.

Option 2: Use the PS5’s Audio Jack via an Adapter

  1. Purchase a Bluetooth Transmitter with Audio Jack: This device should be able to plug into the 3.5mm audio jack on the PS5’s controller.
  2. Pair AirPods: Put your AirPods in pairing mode and follow the instructions to pair them with the Bluetooth transmitter.

Option 3: Use Remote Play

  1. Remote Play on a Supported Device: Use PS Remote Play on a device that supports Bluetooth audio, like a Mac, PC, or mobile device.
  2. Connect AirPods to That Device: Connect your AirPods to your computer or mobile device as you normally would.
  3. Start Remote Play: Launch PS Remote Play and stream your PS5 to your device. The audio will go through the device and into your AirPods.

Option 4: Use a TV or Receiver with Bluetooth Audio Support

  1. Connect PS5 to TV: Connect your PS5 to a TV with Bluetooth audio support.
  2. Pair AirPods with TV: Most modern smart TVs allow you to pair Bluetooth headphones. Pair your AirPods with your TV.

Note:

Remember that using a Bluetooth adapter or transmitter may introduce some level of audio lag, which could be a significant drawback for some games requiring precise timing.

Continue reading as I explain the detailed steps for these 3 proven methods in this illustrative guide. Also, I’ve covered some potential issues you may face in the setup.

Key Takeaways

  • AirPods and PS5 can connect through a Bluetooth adapter, the PS Remote Play app, or a Smart TV.
  • Nevertheless, latency, audio dropouts, and disconnections are a few issues that can negatively impact your gameplay.
  • While some Bluetooth adapters automatically enter the pairing mode, you need to press the pairing button in others manually.

Can You Connect AirPods to PS5?

You can connect AirPods to PS5, but not directly. This is because of the Bluetooth profile mismatch between the two devices.

Let me explain in simpler terms.

Sony’s PlayStations don’t support the A2DP Bluetooth profile that most wireless headphones use, including AirPods. Instead, they only support HSP and HFP profiles.

Due to this, you’ll have to rely on indirect ways to connect your AirPods and PS5. But again, there are some issues one would have to deal with, for example:

Latency

First, latency is the most common problem of all. It’s due to the delay between when the PS5 transmits the audio and when your AirPods receive it.

Note: Latency becomes more prominent in fast-paced games, such as Bloodroots, Verlet Swing, etc.

Disconnections

You have to check the connection between your AirPods and PS5 frequently. Due to incompatibility issues between the two, there could be recurrent disconnection issues. It isn’t very pleasant!

Static Noises

At times, your AirPods may also play random, high-pitched sounds, often described as crackling or static noises, when paired with the PlayStation 5. This is mainly due to wireless interference or a weak connection between them.

No Chatting

As is the case with PS4, AirPods can’t be used to voice chat with your fellow gamers, as the PS5 lacks Bluetooth audio support for chatting or in-game communications.

Audio Dropouts

Lastly, you may also face frequent audio dropouts during PS streaming due to a weak Bluetooth signal.

  • Both the AirPods and Bluetooth adapter are connected now. To check this, go to the Settings of your PS5 console.

Select Output Device

  • Open your console’s Settings
Launch PS5's Settings
  • Scroll down to System.
  • Select Remote Play.
Select Remote Play
  • You’ll find the Enable Remote Play option. Toggle it ON.
  • Return to the settings, and select Power Saving from the left panel.
  • Under Features Available in Rest Mode, turn on Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.
  • Open the PS Remote Play app on your device. You can easily install it if you haven’t already done so.
  • Sign into the same PSN account logged in on your PS5 console.
  • The app will now search for your console and connect automatically. As the last step, pair your AirPods to the mobile phone, which is also connected to the PS5 via Remote Play.

Q: Can I Connect Bluetooth Headphones (or Earbuds) to PS5?

A: Bluetooth headphones (or earbuds) can connect to PS5. However, I should point out that there’s no direct way to do so. You must use any of the workarounds mentioned above like using a BT adapter, connecting them to a Smart TV, or the PS Remote Play app.

Q: Can I Use AirPods Max With PS5?

A: Being an owner myself, yes, I must say that AirPods Max would also work very well with PlayStation 5. But they sound much better in wired mode (via a 3.5mm aux cable) than in wireless.

Q: Can You Connect AirPods to Android Devices?

A: Yes, you can easily connect your Apple AirPods with Android devices if they are Bluetooth enabled. It’s just that you won’t be able to use some iOS-specific features, like Siri, battery indicator, automatic device switching, etc.

Conclusion

Here you go, gamers.

That’s how you combine the power of PlayStation 5 with the convenience of AirPods to take your gaming experience to the next level. But no in-built Bluetooth audio support in the PS5 (or any Sony PS) means relying on external workaround tricks for the setup, which may have certain drawbacks.

For example, static noises, audio dropouts, frequent disconnections, etc. will mar your overall experience. If you can handle these, go ahead, and pick any of the above methods to connect the two devices.

Are you looking for a cool set of headsets that your kids would simply love wearing? If yes, I can’t think of any better option than cat ear (or kitty) headphones. These are just like the regular ones but with cute cat ears at the top. But with the market being flooded with choices, you may wonder about what the best cat ear headphones are for music lovers.

So, I’ve got the answer.

In this article, get detailed reviews of the best cat ear headphones from the top brands you can rely on. Also, don’t forget to read about how this phenomenon started.

Key Takeaways

  • Razer, Riwbox, YOWU, and ONITOON are the best brands for headphones with cat ears.
  • These headsets are equally popular among adults and kids alike.
  • While shopping for a pair, pay attention to the design, comfort levels, connectivity, sound quality, etc.

What Is the Best Brand for Cat Ear Headphones

As is the case with regular headsets, there’s no dearth of brands when talking about cat ear headphones. Here’s a quick summary of the five leading manufacturers, based on their average pricing, sound quality, design, comfort, ANC, etc.

How Did the ‘Cat Ear Headphones’ Phenomenon Start?

The phenomenon of ‘cat ear headphones’ started from a Japanese concept called Nekomimi. It’s a fictional character with cat ears on top of a human head, and possibly other feline characteristics, such as a tail.

Taking inspiration from this, an anime artist named Wenqing Yan, along with Victoria Hu, began designing cat ear headphones. You probably have also heard that Ariana Grande has collaborated with Brookstone on a pair of limited-edition Axent Wear headphones, based on Wenqing Yan’s original design. And today, cat ear headphones are equally popular among kids and adults.

What to Consider When Looking for Cat Ear Headphones?

Below is a quick checklist of some important features to consider when looking for cat ear headphones.

Design & Comfort

The first and foremost thing you must check is the headphone’s design. Check if its headband is adjustable or not. This is necessary if other family members also intend to use it.

In addition, earcups must be padded to provide enough cushioning to your ears for extra comfort.

Cat Ears

Next up, inspect the cat ears for their material, integration into the headphone, and whether they have LED lights. Generally, soft and fluffy cat ears with built-in lighting are favorites among kids (and adults, too.)

Audio Quality

Regarding the audio quality of the cat ear headphones, look for factors like clarity, accuracy, noise cancellation, surround sound, etc. Usually, there is a speaker to take care of most of these things.

Microphone

Whether for hands-free calling, talking to your friends in-game, or binging movies, a good-quality mic is necessary. Luckily, most cat ear headphones nowadays come with an integrated mic. All you need to test is its clarity.

Connectivity

Like regular headphones, those with cat ears are also wired and wireless. Which one is suitable for you depends on your preferences and requirements.

For example, wired headphones are the best bet for gaming as they can easily plug into your console, and wireless for every other purpose. In the latter, check the Bluetooth version, which should be at least v5.0.

Other Features

Other features include different LED modes, ANC, Music Sync, volume limits (especially for kids), etc.

5 Best Cat Ear Headphones – Summary

5 Best Cat Ear Headphones – Detailed Reviews

Now, let’s have a look at the 5 best cat ear headphones’ features, pros, and cons in more detail, so you can make an informed decision before making your purchase.

1. Best Overall Cat Ear Headphones

Riwbox CT-7 Cat Ear Bluetooth Headphones

Riwbox CT-7 Cat Ear Bluetooth Headphones
Amazon price

Specifications

  • Connectivity: Bluetooth, v5.0
  • Form Factor: Over-ear
  • LED Lights: Yes
  • Weight: 7.4 ounces

The Riwbox CT-7 Cat Ear Bluetooth Headphone is an all-time favorite option among kids and the best mix of premium-quality sound, attractive RGB lights, and bright colors.

This dual-color cat ear headphone comes with a powerful 40mm speaker built-in to give your kids an immersive listening experience in all types of settings — for example, home, office, flight, school, etc. For the bass, I found it well-balanced. It’s neither too low nor too high.

The overall build quality is good, if not the best, due to the overuse of plastic. Still, sufficient padding throughout the body balances things well. Twin cat ears at the top are soft-touch and firmly attached.

Coming to connectivity, CT-7 is equipped with the Bluetooth v5.0 chipset for stable and reliable connections with all compatible devices (smartphone, PC, TV, laptop, etc.) If not wireless, the option for a wired setup is also present. But there’s no multipoint!

CT-7, unlike its peers, features a unique combination of RGB lights that not just blinks but changes color with the rhythm of the music your kids are listening to. Turning these lights ON/OFF is also simple. Press the ‘M’ button for a few seconds, and it’s done.

Lastly, the on-headphone controls are impressive, with separate buttons to play the next song, previous song, and volume control. Thus, no need to depend on the connected device to control those!

Pros

  • Attractive LED lights
  • Balanced sound quality
  • Wired & wireless connectivity
  • Music-responsive lighting

Cons

  • Plastic-based body
  • Battery drains faster

2. Best Cat Ear Headphones With Mic

ONITOON Cat Ear Bluetooth Headphones

ONITOON Cat Ear Bluetooth Headphones

Specifications

  • Connectivity: Bluetooth, v5.0
  • Form Factor: Over-ear
  • LED Lights: Yes
  • Weight: 8.6 ounces

The next product on the list is the ONITOON Cat Ear Bluetooth Headphones – my go-to recommendation for rich bass and lifelike audio.

What I like the most about these headsets is their preset volume limits to protect the user’s hearing. While it’s 105 dB for adult headphones, it reduces to 85 dB in the case of kids’. But this doesn’t affect the sound quality, which the 40mm stereo speakers take care of.

For connectivity, you can either connect to other devices wirelessly via Bluetooth v5.0 or the supplied 3.5mm audio cable if the earphone runs out of juice. But I found the cable quality average, and thus, recommend buying one separately.

There’s also a built-in microphone for hands-free calling, audio recording, gaming, etc. I found its performance quite good!

The design and comfort of these ONITOON cat ear Bluetooth headphones are also one of their talking points. Be it the adjustable headband or earcups, both are crafted from soft leather and memory foam. Besides, the foldable design makes the headphones easy to take anywhere, and that too safely.

Tip: You can further protect your headphones by securing them in a storage bag, like this Desing Wish Lightweight Headphone Storage Bag.

Regarding the battery life, this particular model from ONITOON has a massive charge backup of up to 55 hours, but you must keep the flashy RGB lights OFF. If turned on, it reduces to 8-10 hours. Still, one charge is enough for a week!

Lastly, the various controls on both earcups let you change the volume, play/pause previous/next music, and turn RGB ON/OFF.

Pros

  • Preset volume limits
  • Premium build quality
  • Adjustable design
  • Decent sound quality due to 40mm speakers

Cons

  • No ANC
  • The quality of controls is average

3. Best Wireless Cat Ear Headphones That Light Up

EASARS Wireless Cat Ear Headphones

EASARS Wireless Cat Ear Headphones
Amazon price

Specifications

  • Connectivity: Bluetooth, v5.0
  • Form Factor: Over-ear
  • LED Lights: Yes
  • Weight: 1.46 pounds

If you’re looking for the most vibrant cat earphones, the EASARS Wireless Cat Ear Headphones are your best bet.

Designed for general use and light gaming, the headset comprises long-lasting RGB LED lights on cat ears and ear pads. Their brightness is also nearly perfect.

Not just that, there are nine different lighting effects to switch to and amp up your gaming setup for late-night streaming. Still, the fact that these lights don’t work in a wired connection is something I didn’t like. Hence, you must stick to the wireless mode!

The EASARS wireless cat ear headphones also score a brownie point for their virtual 7.1 surround sound quality that the 50mm speaker enhances further. Besides, the retractable microphone can be adjusted at will. So, no external mic is needed!

Talking about the battery, it’s the standard 50 hours without lights, and up to 10-12 hours with them. But the fast-charging feature makes me rank this headphone higher than its peers.

Made from high-grade soft silicone material, this headband feels super soft on your hairline. Thus, you won’t face any discomfort, irrespective of how long you wear them. But sweating issues and poor isolation are two cons I would highlight with this headset’s silicone-based earcups.

Pros

  • Multiple lighting effects
  • Fast charging capabilities
  • Built-in retractable microphone
  • Voice reminder for low charge

Cons

  • RGB lights don’t work in the wired mode
  • Not for intense gaming

4. Best Gaming Cat Ear Headphones

Razer Kraken Kitty RGB USB Gaming Headset

Razer Kraken Kitty RGB USB Gaming Headset

Specifications

  • Connectivity: USB
  • Form Factor: Over-ear
  • LED Lights: Yes
  • Weight: 14.4 ounces

Razer is a renowned brand in the gaming industry, and the Razer Kraken Kitty RGB USB Gaming Headset is worth checking out.

The main talking point of this pair of headphones is its stream-responsive lighting on the kitty ears. A one-of-a-kind feature in itself powered by Razer Chroma, what it does is respond to your audience’s emotes, alerts, and shoutouts through vibrant colors. You can even customize them through Razer’s official Streamer Companion app.

Next, there’s not just your regular microphone, but an active noise-canceling one tuned to block out every ambient noise. It’s retractable, too. You’ll miss wireless Bluetooth connectivity here, but the alternative USB mode doesn’t disappoint.

Regarding the audio quality, I loved these headphones’ Spatial 7.1 surround sound. It accurately positions the audio, resulting in an immersive listening experience across any form of entertainment, from intense games to epic movies.

Razer Kraken Kitty headphones are also worth the money for their superior durability and lightweight bauxite aluminum frame design that snugly fits over your head. In addition, the cooling-gel ear cushions keep you feeling great even after a long gaming session.

Pros

  • Great at noise cancellation
  • Customizable lighting effects
  • The mute option is present on the mic itself
  • Sleek and stylish

Cons

  • No Bluetooth
  • Audio often cuts in and out

5. Best Cat Ear Headphones for Kids

SIMGAL Bluetooth Cat Ear Headphones

SIMGAL Bluetooth Cat Ear Headphones
Amazon price

Specifications

  • Connectivity: Bluetooth, v5.0
  • Form Factor: Over-ear
  • LED Lights: Yes
  • Weight: 10.2 ounces

Last but not least, check out the SIMGAL Bluetooth Cat Ear Headphones. These over-ear headphones are specifically designed for kids, and, thus, have a well-balanced sound profile, comfort, and easy-to-use features.

Being primarily wireless headphones, it uses Bluetooth v5.0 technology to connect to a wide range of devices, for example, mobile phones, tablets, computers, and more. But if needed, the option to use it as a wired headset also exists.

As I initially said, the SIMGAL Bluetooth cat ear headphones are highly comfortable. Made from high-quality soft leather and memory foam, the headband doesn’t pressure your hairline. Thanks to dual-layer padding, the earcups also feel gentle on the ears.

Coming to the sound, the built-in 40mm speaker ensures a great listening experience with sufficient bass and treble. Since the volume is limited to 85 dB, you don’t need to worry even if your kids keep on the headphones for long.

Despite them being a budget-friendly option, I appreciate SIMGAL for providing an HD microphone with a wind-proof and noise-reducing cavity design for hands-free calling, recording, voice chatting, etc.

Pros

  • Foldable & adjustable
  • Decent noise isolation
  • Travel-friendly
  • Multi-button easy operation

Cons

  • Don’t have a long charge
  • The lights aren’t bright enough

Imagine if you could still stay fully aware of what’s happening around you while listening to your favorite music through a headset. Yes, I know this may sound strange in the first place, but that’s exactly what bone conduction headphones are known for.

Bone conduction headphones transmit sound through vibrations that travel to the inner ear via the bones of the skull, allowing your ear canal to hear the noises around you.

If this concept sounds interesting to you, don’t miss this article.

Going forward, I’ve covered everything about this unique category of headphones in detail, from the way they function to comparing them to regular air-conduction headsets.

So, keep on reading!

Key Takeaways

  • Bone conduction headphones, or simply bone phones, are used by runners, cyclists, swimmers, musicians, people hard of hearing, etc.
  • They transmit sound to the inner ears as vibrations via the skull.
  • There are no potential downsides to these headphones if used correctly.
  • There is no clear winner between air and bone conduction headphones, due to their different strengths and weaknesses.

How Do Bone Conduction Headphones Work?

How Do Bone Conduction Headphones Work

Now that you’ve got the gist of what bone conduction headphones are, I know you’re keen to understand how they work. So, here it is.

Bone phones are based on the bone conduction audio technology. What this does is convert every sound into vibrations with the help of a tiny transducer. These vibrations then travel to your inner ear (or cochlea) via the bones of the skull (the speaker)

This leaves your outer ear completely unblocked, and thus free to let in other external noise.

But are bone conduction headphones safe? The answer is YES and NO. It’s a yes if you properly wear these headphones and for limited durations. And it’s a no if you do otherwise.

What Are the Advantages and Disadvantages of Bone Conduction Headphones?

Example of Bone Conduction Headphones

Bone conduction headphones may be advertised as a ‘godsend’ gadget and it’s true for not one, but many reasons. But as every coin has two sides, the same is true for these devices.

Below are the key advantages and disadvantages of bone phones.

Pros of Bone Conduction Headphones

Keeps You Aware of The Surroundings

Being still aware of your surroundings, while listening to your music, is probably one of the biggest pros of bone conduction headphones. This way, you need not pause your song every time to listen to what’s happening around you.

Helps Deaf People Hear

The sound waves produced by these headphones directly reach the cochlea (inner ear) of the wearer, skipping the affected parts of the ear(s), if any. Due to this, even deaf people or those hard of hearing can enjoy their favorite songs.

In The Ear ITE Hearing Aid

Note: One can use bone conduction headphones with In-The-Ear (ITE) and Invisible-In-The-Canal (IIC) hearing aids. On the other hand, you should avoid them with hearing aids such as Receiver-In-Canal (RIC), Behind-The-Ear (BTE), and Open-Fit.

Useful For Different Professions

Bone conduction headsets are also useful for different professions. Take the example of athletes like cyclists, runners, swimmers, etc. They can use these earphones for communication with their team members and still have situational awareness.

No Ear Wax or Infection Worries

As you’re not plugging anything into your ears, the risk of ear wax accumulation or infections is minimal with bone conduction headphones.

Comfortable to Wear

I’m not saying regular earphones aren’t comfortable. But they are notorious for falling off the ear or putting pressure on the head if worn for long. Forget how difficult it becomes to manage them in or around sweaty ears!

This isn’t the case with bone conduction headphones that sit around your ears, against the skull.

Better Awareness

You will be better aware of traffic and other potential dangers when you listen to music with bone conduction headphones in urban settings. The same applies if your job involves some risky tasks, where your hearing needs to be unaffected. This means that you can still enjoy some quiet music or take an important call while at work.

Cons of Bone Conduction Headphones

May Cause Hearing Loss

Yes, you read that right. According to the CDC, listening to loud sounds for a long time, be it with air or bone conduction headphones, can result in damaging your hearing. This is because it damages the cells and membranes inside the cochlea.

Headaches and Vertigo

The sound vibrations produced by bone phones often cause headaches, vertigo, and even dizziness. And as your music gets louder, the vibrations become more intense. All this contributes to a weird feeling on your cheekbones.

Skin Irritation

Another common issue I came across with bone conduction headphones is skin irritation, especially if you wear them for long hours.

Lower Sound Quality

Lower sound quality is the next big problem you’ll face with such headphones as they rely on vibrations to transmit sound, rather than air. Due to this, neither bass nor treble are clear while listening to anything.

Sound Leakage

If you’re using bone conduction headphones in a public place, for example, the metro or library, your friend sitting next to you will be able to guess what you’re listening to. This is because the sound vibrations often leak into the atmosphere.

Which Is Better, Air or Bone Conduction Headphones?

There’s no clear winner between these two types of headphones, as also evident from the above table.

  • While air-conduction headphones work by vibrating your eardrum to produce high-quality audio with bass, they also block out almost all ambient noise. Examples: BUGANI B01, ORANPID PQ-1, etc.
  • Conversely, bone conduction headphones work by converting sound into vibrations that then travel to your inner ears via the skull bones. As a result, you can still hear ambient noises, but the audio quality also gets reduced due to the same. Examples: H2O Audio Sonar PRO, JekaDabe OPENEAR Bone X2, etc.

Hence, which of the two is best for you solely depends on your primary needs.

Bone Conduction Headphones: FAQs

Q: How Long Do Bone Conduction Headphones Last?

A: How long your bone conduction headphone will last primarily depends on the model you use. Still, most of them last between 6-8 hours per charge. You can, however, follow these tips to increase your headset’s battery life:

  • Avoid using the headphones for long
  • Keep the volume level low to moderate
  • Keep the firmware updated to the latest version

Q: Can a Deaf Person Hear With Bone Conduction Earphones?

A: Yes, a deaf person can hear with bone conduction headphones. This is also one of the main advantages of the tech.

Q: Can Bone Headphones Damage Hearing?

A: Bone conduction headphones generally don’t damage your hearing. This is because they transmit vibrations to your inner ears via the bones of your skull, keeping the ear canal free. However, improper use or extremely high volume may affect your hearing abilities in the long run.

Q: Can You Use Bone Conduction Headphones With Hearing Aids?

A: You can use bone conduction headphones with hearing aids only if you use In-The-Ear (ITE) or Invisible-In-The-Canal (IIC) aids.

Q: Can Others Hear Bone Conduction Headphones?

A: Others can hear bone conduction headphones, due to the sound leakage limitation of these devices. This is because some vibrations get transferred into the air.

Conclusion

The concept of bone conduction headphones isn’t new. It has been around for over two decades, with the first commercial earphones hitting the market in the 2000s.

Although designed for athletes (swimmers, runners, etc.), musicians, and people with mild to moderate hearing loss, anyone can try and make use of bone conduction headphones. But before you go ahead and order a pair for yourself, be aware of their disadvantages too.
